Red belly turtle

The red belly turtle (also known as Pseudemys Nelsoni) is a great beginner turtle. Ranging from seven to thirteen inches; making these one of the larger pet turtles found across the world. These adorable turtles are known be herbivores; preferring aquatic plants however sometimes eating a few insects. Of course, this can vary per the age of the turtle; as only younger turtles tend to snap up an insect or two for dinner.
These turtles enjoy a variable temperature from an air temperature of low to mid eighties, with a basking temperature of the high eighties to low nineties, all to be rounded out by a mid seventies temperature of water. They are generally found in areas of the world that have ponds, lakes, creeks, ditches, marshes, or any other abundant water and heavy vegetation areas.
Red belly turtles are a great beginner! They enjoy basking throughout the day; making it important to provide them not only with water, but a nice basking spot in their enclosure as well. Their enclosures should be a minimum ninety gallons for a single adult red belly turtle. Providing adequate swimming and basking areas; of which is fairly easy to find. You can find these tanks at a reputable fish or reptile supplies dealer near you.
