Painted turtles
The
painted turtle (or Chrysemys picta) is a turtle that is found within
the United States; primarily California and northern Mexico. They
are related to many different water turtles such as the slider and
cooter.
The painted turtle flourishes in watery habitats such as ponds and
lakes. It is of the utmost importance to offer them a wet habitat
with a little dry land for them to bask in the glow of your heat-lamp.
When feeding your painted turtle you will want to feed them both
live and pellet food. Use the live food to supplement the nutrient
rich pellets made from algae, plant life, worms, and fish. They
should get all of these within a strict feeding schedule.
Once you have chosen a painted turtle as your pet of choice; you
should seek out a knowledgeable vet near you. This vet will be able
to guide you on how best to take care of your new pet.
