Box turtles

Box turtles are one of the most popular types of pet turtles around the world. Unlike some other types of turtle; box turtles have a wonderful means of protecting themselves from predators. They are able to close up their shell completely! By means of using a hinge located on the lower-half of their shell; they can retract their body inside of the shell and close up shop; leaving no semblance of tender flesh exposed.

They make wonderful pets! However, they are not beginner turtles and should never be taken from the wild. If you choose to adopt a box turtle; you should find a reputable rescue in your area to meet your new pet.

Their housing varies greatly from many other turtles. In the essence that they do equally as well both indoors and outdoors in large enclosures; these are not aquarium turtles! These turtles need room to move and enjoy their lives.

So, what do you feed your box turtle? Much like many other turtles; box turtles are omnivores. They will eat anything from fruits, vegetables, mollusks, worms, and insects. Making them a particularly easy turtle to feed; especially when supplemented with turtle pellets which have been specially formulated for their diets.
